Question : Problem: Blinking LED Fans When Hooked Into Motherboard Instead Of Power Supply

I have several LED case fans that flash when I hook them up to the motherboard. They are variable speed fans and the motherboard does have the capability to control them. They do not flash (blink, whatever) when plugged directly into the power supply. I need to know if this is damaging the fans/mobo/anything else and why they are flashing.

Also, I would like to know why my CPU fan (stock HSF from intel on a P4 2.8ghz HT chip) claims to be variable speed but never changes from roughly 2730RPM even when the temp rises from 35C to 55C.

Because the temperature sensor is on motherboard, power supply can not tell the temperature of the motherboard.
It is no harm to directly plug-in to power supply, however, this way doesn't get the benefit from the "variable speed controll".

55C should be ok. You might want to check the CPU manual (retail box?) about the reasonable temperature range.
