Question : Problem: Optiplex GX150 upgrade 2.6 ghz?

Hello All,

i was wondering if I could upgrade my Optiplex GX150, currently 1ghz to 2.4ghz, Do you tihink I would get all of the power out of it that I could on a new mtherboard?

Not likely.  The GX150 is a P3 based board.  You can't stick a P4 into a P3 - it's a totally different chip.

Replacing the motherboard is not likely to work either.  Dell makes their cases and motherboard custom so you can't just swap another board in there.

You could buy a new case, new motherboard, new processor, new memory (your old memory won't work in the new system), and reuse the Hard Drive and CD/DVD ROM drives, but by the time you've done all that, you could have bought a new computer for about the same price and gotten some noteably more capable equipment (larger hard drive, faster CD-ROM - or even a DVD RW).
