Question : Problem: Is it me, my computer, or my monitor?
I just received a new Dell SP2009W 20" monitor today. However, I'm having a hard time getting it as sharp as my HP 22".
Symptoms:
1) Black text on win toolbars has white ghost image of each letter shifted just a bit to the right.
2) Black text on white background looks a little too overaliased (fuzzy).
3) Off color line running the height of the screen about two millimeters from the left edge of the screen.
Attempts at correction:
1) Separated monitor cable from power cable.
2) Used the autocorrect feature on the monitor.
3) Rebooted.
That's about my ceiling of knowledge on monitors. My HP 22" looks sharp. Tomorrow I will try this 20" Dell monitor on my work computer so see if there is a difference. How do I know if the problem is with me (being too picky), my computer (bad or weak video capability), or the monitor? Thanks
Hardware:
Sony Vaio VGN-FS750P /W
1.86GHz, 0.99 GB RAM
Adapter
---------
Adapter: Intel(R) 915GM/GMS, 910GML Express Chipset Family
Memory Size 128 MB
Driver
-------
Dell (confirmed by looking at the properties window, also shows my monitor name of SP2009W)
Screen Resolution
----------------------
1680 x 1050 (the resolution setting for this monitor)
Answer : Problem: Is it me, my computer, or my monitor?
If you plug the HP 22" into the same computer, is it still sharp?
This Dell monitor is a wide-screen monitor - If your computer is running 1680 X 1050 and the video is fuzzy and has ghosting, then the monitor is most likely bad.
