Question : Problem: Activesync causes BSOD
|
|
Installing Activesync 4.5 causes a BSOD just before the install completes. Activesync appears to be installed after reboot but starting it causes the same BSOD. Attempts to uninstall result in the same BSOD. The icon in my computer for the Mobile device is only partially complete with the center section kind of smudged looking. Clicking the icon causes Explorer to crash and shutdown.
Microsoft's Activesync Help website has a lot of reference to firewall/av configuration to let Activesync work. 've completely uninstalled the firewall/av/etc. (F-Secure from Embarq, the ISP)
This is a Dell desktop computer running XP SP2 with all updates (SP3 is not installed). This is not my computer so getting more specifics on the hardware/software may take some time
I see a lot of BSOD messages with Activesync on Google but most are 8E errors and earlier versions of Activesync.

None of the offered solutions fixed the problem. I finally did a Repair Install of Windows. This caused the main user profile to BSOD while "loading Personal Settings". This was true in Safe Mode also. I was able to get logged into the Administrator account in Normal mode. This had me believe that it was a Profile issue. I created another user account and this one worked also but the original continued the BSOD. I finally copied the Documents, Favorites, etc to the new profile along with Local Settings and Application data etc. (NOT the NTUSER.DAT or NTUSER.INI files!). Everything now seems to be working fine. All programs are working and the Documents are in place. The only small downside is that the personal preferences like Desktop Walepaper, Mouse settings, etc. are not there. Not a big problem.
Thanks to those that offered solutions.
