Question : Problem: Veritas Back Exec Job Engine failure
|
|
Hi there,
I recently installed Norton AV for Exchange 5.5 onto a server. Since then our Veritas backup software has stopped working properly. Everything looks ok except the Job Engine services keep stopping by itself. When I open the UI an try to browse ANY folder then I either get the message "RPC failure" or "a null context handle was found... yada yada yada" at this point the Job Engine appears to stop. I've told the Job Engine to restart if it stops but I don't like it as a long term solution.
I've tried disabling the anti-virus stuff but it is still the same although it did all work before I installed the software.
We are using veritas 8.1 Norton AV for Exchange 2.18, Windows 2000, Exchange 5.5 SP4.
Norton has a number of options that allow you to change the MAPI/VAPI interface that it is using. I've tried most of the options but still have a problem.
Any ideas why AV software buggers with the Veritas stuff?
Thanks in advance.

What are you using for credentials on those services? Local System or a domain account? Had you actually disabled the naming service and rebooted? You might try the same with the Symantec services. I know we're using SAV on our 2k servers and don't have this problem...but I honestly don't recall if that was the reason we killed that service or not... :( Post back and let me know.
Incidentally, do you have a copy of Acces 97? I know we'd also had a couple of problems with the BE pvl database that were resolved using the older version of Access (don't use a newer one, cause it'll upgrade the db format).
