Question : Problem: Realtek AC'97 Audio Drivers causing PC to reboot upon installation
I did a clean install of XP Pro. I tried to install AC'97 drivers and it asked me for a disc. I tracked down the Audio drivers from the Mobo Manufacturer (Asus P4SP-MX) and it got halfway through installing and turned the PC off, then immediately rebooted. Then it kept asking for a disc again, every 5 mins.
Asked my good friend google and checked through here. I ended up uninstalling the drivers and reinstalling in safe mode. The PC then reboots as soon as it got to the desktop and discovered the Multimedia Hardware.
I uninstalled, disabled ac'97 in BIOS, reinstalled and re-enabled. When I got to the desktop this time, it finds the new hardware and I have tried to install from the net (automatically find) and also from the folder I have on my desktop. Either way it does the same thing, which is load up to the end, then, almost as if its the instant the onboard sound in initiated, the PC reboots and I have to do the same thing again.
I have reached my dead end and I humbly throw myself at your feet and beg for answers...
Answer : Problem: Realtek AC'97 Audio Drivers causing PC to reboot upon installation
Looks as if the audio chip is having a problem, and when is initialized after the driver is loaded causes a reboot.
At this point I believe you may have to disable the onboard sound and put a PCI audio card in place to have sound.
