Question : Problem: sound has stopped working on pc (This device cannot start. (Code 10))

I have a Dell Dimension 5100 pc, running Windows XP Professional a while ago sound simply stopped working. I am not sure exactly when it would have happened and so have no useful information about other things that may have led to the problem. In device manager I have selected my sound device and tried uninstalling the driver reinstalling which simply reports thta the sound device will nto work correctly.

In the properties dialogue I have the message:

This device cannot start. (Code 10)

Click Troubleshoot to start the troubleshooter for this device.

Im not sure where to go from here.

Id still be looking at trying card in a different machine or alternate card as i think the card has gone bad
