Question : Problem: RAM for Dell PowerEdge 1600SC

dell poweredge 1600sc with windows server 2000.  currently has 1gb PC2100.
www.crucial.com says DDR PC2700 will work

i bought DDR PC3200 and the server would not accept it (beeping at POST).  i tried removing the existing memory and just using the new memory, and it did not work.

the new memory is the same width as the old memory so it fit in the slots on the MB, but the old memory is taller.  the dell website shows PC2100.

am i only able to use PC2100?  and why is the memory stick taller?

Answer : Problem: RAM for Dell PowerEdge 1600SC

Base on Dell:

http://support.dell.com/support/edocs/systems/pe1600sc/en/it/g3138c6a.htm#1100199

System memory is upgradable to 4 GB by installing combinations of 128-, 256-, 512-MB, and 1-GB registered DDR SDRAM modules. The DDR SDRAM memory modules must be PC-266 compliant.

Your new memory stick will not work. And you are right, onlt PC2100. The higher or lower in height is not important.
