Question : Problem: does upgrading CPU affect windows installation
I would like to know if upgrading CPU affect windows installation. in other word, should I need to reinstall the OS.
I know (because I read it on Microsoft web site) that if you upgrade your non-Hyper threading CPU to an hyper threading CPU, you'll need to reinstall if you want microsoft to support the OS installation. (who call Microsoft support team today anyway)
but my specific case here is: I got an Intel 2.6ghz HC (Hyper Threading) and I want to upgrade to a 3.2 Ghz HC.
I'm using WinXp srvp2
Should I reinstall ?
don't answer with only yes or no, provide external link to the information that would support your answer. Microsoft reference would be prefered to other link.
regards.
Answer : Problem: does upgrading CPU affect windows installation
No you don't have to reinstall - i did it many times
just verify you don't need to upgrade the bios, so it identifies the cpu correctly
