Question : Problem: system volume information

We have a server running server 2003.  The system volume information folder has 33GB of data in it.  We are down to 17GB on the c drive.  I have checked into this on the web and found out it may be system restore or shadow copies taking up the space.  It has been doing this since Oct. 1st at a rate of 200 to 500 mb per day.  How do i stop this from happening.  We are also running Veritas backup software with shadow copies.

Answer : Problem: system volume information

The shadow copies used by the backup and the Windows Shadow copies ARE NOT THE SAME THING
The shadow copy used by the backup allows it to backup open files, the shadow copies used by Windows allows the use of the "previous versions" tab to recover accidentally changed or deleted files.

If you switch off Volime Shadow Copies of shared folders you will lose the "previous versions" facility - if you really want to do it then right click on the Drive and select, Properties, Shadow Copies and DISABLE it.
