Question : Problem: Arcserve 11 & DAT72 Drives going Offline
|
|
Hi
I am having a problem over a number of our sites Using Small Business Server 2003 with Arcserve Version 11.1 and up using DAT72 Drives
The backup is running every night at midnight
Most mornings the backup will be successfuly but other mornings it will fail and if you look at the Device with Arcserve the Tape drive will be Offline.
If you put the drive online again and then reschedule to backup it will run 100%
Has anyone else come across this problem.
Thanks in advance
Regards
Ross

Usually a hardware problem. Drives will get marked off line if there is a failure to load a tape or an error that results in the job to be canceled.
check the history. For example if these system have been running fine for years and just started having problems. Check the activity log for errors. Check the Database Media and Device view for errors. Error associated to specific tapes is an indication of a tape problem. For for information on what is happening at the drive level bring up the ARCserve Server Admin, Configuration, Tape Engine set message level to Detail. Data is written in tape.log.
Just in case here are the latest updates that will effect drive operation. http://supportconnectw.ca.com/public/storage/downloads/nt/111/basb111-patchmenu.asp QO77072 100.0 MB 03/08/06 NT - BAB R11.1 WINDOWS - SP 2 QO81964 10.9 MB 08/31/06 NT -DEVICE SUPPORT UPDATE 8
