Question : Problem: how do I perform MBR partition alignment on Windows 2000 Server?

Hi All,

Im trying to figure out how to perform partition alignment on Windows 2000 server. The trouble is the usual tool to do this (diskpart.exe) will not work correctly on Windows 2000. It seems to require 2003 or higher, even though it comes on the 2000 resource kit.

The command to align the partition from inside diskpart is:

create partition primary align=64

this works fine from in Server 2003, but in Server 2000 I get the following error:

the arguments you specified for this command are not valid

The solution, so Im told is to use the old partitioning tool called diskpar.exe. The problem is this tool is no longer available from Microsoft to download, and I cant find it anywhere on the net. A call to Microsoft support (yes Im a sucker for punishment) resulted in didly-squat unless Im willing to pay $390 for an engineer to talk to.

Has anyone else had this problem, am I doing something blindingly obvious wrong?

Thanks

Shaun
