Question : Problem: SATA drive in system with SCSI's

I have a system that has a Gigabyte mobo, Adaptec SCSI contoller (card) with 2 Seagate Cheetah 73GB 15K drives, & also with a 160GB IDE drive that contains the OS & apps. I have purchased a WD 400GB SATA 150 drive to add to this system. What the system boots after installing the new drive, after it finds all of the drive systems (SCSI & SATA controllers & drives), it goes to a black screen like just before Windows loads & stays there. It will not go any further. If I unplug the SATA drive from the cable (the cable is still plugged into the board) & restart it will go thru the same routine but Windows will start up without any problems.

I have tried removing SATA drivers & reinstalling them, updating the SATA drivers, searching the Gigabyte FAQ's & forums, searching WD's FAQ's & forums, & removing the SCSI controller card. But Windows will not start with this drive connected to the cable. I have also tried 2 other cables & the other SATA connector on the mobo. Also I have tried the drive in another computer & it found the drive & should the contents without any problems. So it doesn't appear the be any problem with the drive itself.

The really wierd thing about this is that when I first installed this drive (it had never had a SATA drive in it before), Windows booted right up & found the drive. I used Disk Management to format the drive successfully. After rebooting, this problem started.

Can anyone make any suggestions?? It's really got me baffled!! Thanks!!

Though Serial ATA will not be able to directly interface with legacy Ultra ATA hardware, it is fully compliant with the ATA protocol and thus is software compatible.  (www.SerialATA.org)
