Question : Problem: Need assistance getting a VNC connection from OS X Leopard to Windows XP

Hi All,

I need some help making a successful VNC Connection from my MacBookPro to another machine on my network running Windows XP.

The MAC is my recording studio machine and the XP machine is my sampler.  The problem is that I cannot use Remote Desktop because my sampler engine refuses to playback when in terminal service mode like that.  So I need something that places me right on the desktop, not in a terminal session.

I have already had REALVNC server installed on the XP PC.  Tried to connect with Leopards VNC built in client.  Failed.  It instantly closes my connection and won't succeed.

I have used TightVNC and that fails too.  Connection closes instantly.

I have tried JollysfastVNC and also Chicken of the VNC.  None of them will connect to this XP machine.

I have the windows firewall turned off on the connection and these machines are local to one another so I shouldn't have to open my Cisco PIX ports since it's all internal traffic on the same local cisco switch.

Any ideas as to why this is happening?  Is it possibly a setting on the MAC that is causing it to instantly shut down?

When I hit the connect button (on ANY of the VNC clients) I get the VNC password authentication window.  But the second I type in the password I get shutdown and rejected (closed).  I even setup REALVNC and TightVNC with no connection authentication or password.  I still get shut down instantly upon connection.

Any ideas please?

Thanks!

A commercial solution would be Timbuktu Pro  http://www.netopia.com/software/products/tb2/multi/

I am not sure if there is a demo on their web site, but you might have a look.

Have you tried using the newest version of the Mac RDC client:  http://www.microsoft.com/mac/products/remote-desktop/default.mspx
