Question : Problem: Capacity of Storage Devices

Why is it that most storage devices (like thumb drives, hard-disks, memory) always increase their memory capacity by a power of two.
For example: we had 2 GB pen drive, then came 4 gb and then 8 gb. why not 7 gb or 5 gb in between?
Same with external hard drives: 80 gb, then 160 gb, 320 gb......

Answer : Problem: Capacity of Storage Devices

Here is a good wiki
