Question : Problem: Not able to connect to the internet.

At present, I cannot connect to the internet. This all started yesterday when I got home from work. I tried to go to google, and there was no internet. The wireless network that I was on was working just fine. I had a full connection to it, however, there was no internet. I tried resetting the wireless adapter, and this seemed to make it worse. The IP address was now reading something like 169.xxx.x.x, and the connection to the network would just hang on the message "Aquiring Network Address". When i would manually set the IP/Default Gateway it would connect, but it would give me the message "Limited or no Connectivity" After a long and tedious night of meddling with my laptop, uninstalling thinkvantage access connections (bad idea) as well as client security solutions (another bad idea) i finally got my computer sort of working again (in that I could now access my files/log in) and the network problem still persisted. I finally ran winsockfix, and that seemed to -almost- fix the problem. I can connect to the network. It connects immediately. there is no lack of connectivity(reported anyway) and when I run IP config, I even get a dns suffix (something that I hadn't before.) but still, no internet. I can't connect to google through a browser, and I cant Ping it.

I have tried installing new drivers for the wireless, as well as running the latest version of AVG (which returned 'No Threats')

There are Other PCs and Laptops connected to this network as well, but none of them exibit this problem, This problem also carries over to my Work Network, which also has other PCs on it. (so its not likely to be caused by the Router)

My Laptop is a Lenovo x60 Tablet 6366-4DU
the network Card is an Intel Pro/Wireless 3945ABG
I am running on Microsoft Windows XP Professional (Tablet Edittion)
Version : 5.1.2600 Service Pack 2 Build 2600

When I run IPConfig this is what i Get:
(Wireless) Connection Specific DNS Suffix = sisDomain.Local
IP Address                                                       192.168.10.124
SubNet Mask                                                    255.255.255.0
Defauly Gateway                                             192.168.10.1

If it means anything, i was trying to set up an FTP Folder at work on my laptop before all of this happened. I may have changed some of the settings, but im pretty sure that everything is back to the way it was before I tried.

Any help would be Much appreciated
If ive missed anything let me know

Answer : Problem: Not able to connect to the internet.

Status update: I have tracked the problem down to a program called access connections that came with the laptop. I had to basically reinstall the operating system and start from scratch, since there was no way for me to get the same version of access connections from the Lenovo web site.

I used the thinkvantage Rescue and Restore program to restore my computer to factory Defaults.

Note to anyone else who has this problem:

You can use the thinkvantage software (pressing the thinkvantage button while booting) to 'rescue files' to an external Hard drive, so this process doesn't destroy all of your files. I still had to reinstall my programs, but at least I didn't loose any work. Since I am unsure of the stability of access connections, I am going to make a backup as soon as I have everything installed and set up, so if this happens again, I can just load from a backup.
