Is it faded all the way across the page, or is it for example more faded on the left that the right? With older printers you will sometimes get dust build up on the mirrors and lenses that can cause this problem, though I haven't seen this on the lj4000's.There was a model slightly older than the 4000's that was notorious for this, but i don't recall which one. you can usually clean the mirrors and lenses with isopropyle alcohol.
