Question : Problem: How to choose to buy a USB Flash memory stick?

I want to buy a USB memory stick; however my friend
has got some problems with his usb-memory stick;similar to those encountered with long used floppy-disks;
I want to ask: what kind of crashs might occur to
a usb-memory stick ;
and what is the recommended trends
with a reasonable price to buy?
