Question : Problem: Assigned IP address is not showing up in iconfig
|
|
I'm trying to setup a web server and went in under Network Connections and assigned the 2 ip addresses that I want associated with the web server. I did this by going under Network Connections, choosing my network connection (only one network card is installed), TCP/IP Properties.
Under Use the Following IP Address: IP Address: xxx.xxx.xxx.133 Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.240 Default Gateway: xxx.xxx.xxx.129
Under Use the following DNS Server Addresses: Preferred DNS: xxx.xxx.xxx.2 Alternate DNS: xxx.xxx.xxx.7
Under Advanced: IP Settings: xxx.xxx.xxx.133 255.255.255.240 xxx.xxx.xxx.135 255.255.255.240 Default Gateways xxx.xxx.xxx.129
However when I do IPCONFIG from a command prompt, I get the following: Connection-specific DNS Suffix: IP Address: 0.0.0.0 Subnet Mask: 0.0.0.0 IP Address: xxx.xxx.xxx.133 Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.240 Default Gateway: xxx.xxx.xxx.129
I am able to ping xxx.xxx.xxx.133 and xxx.xxx.xxx.135.
As you can see, the second IP address is not showing up. I don't know why and I have been working on this for days with no resolution. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Answer : Problem: Assigned IP address is not showing up in iconfig

I removed .133 from the Advanced dialog and was no longer able to get on the machine. I had the tech guy where the server is kept add the .133 back and now I'm able to get back on.
In addition, I discovered that the .135 address was already assigned to another server which was causing an IP conflict. I thought I had removed the address from that server but apparently I did not. Now that I've removed it, I can see the IP address when I do ipconfig /all.
