Question : Problem: Updating a stand alone cisco 3500xl firmware

Hi lads
I'm a complete beginner when it comes to cisco switchs
I have a cisco 3500xl switch which is not connected to any network.
I want to update the firmware before I configure the switch for use in our network.
How can i setup a TFTP server to be able to pull the new ios from.
I have tried a static ip address, TFTP software, enabled the ethernet port, but i feel i am missing somthing.
Any how would be cool

Ok I solved it

When configuring vlan 1 to connect to the pc, i needed to enter "arp arpa" after setting the ip address.
