Question : Problem: HP ProCurve Switch Question

We recently fiber in our company and wanted to upgrade our HP ProCurve Switch 5308xl  with fiber ports. I am not at all familiar with this, so I called HP for support. They said that the RJ45 switch modules currently installed have 2 mini-GBIC ports. You can see them on the far right as seen in this picture.

I am now more confused than ever. Never heard of mini-GIBC ports. What are they, how do we use them?

Answer : Problem: HP ProCurve Switch Question

It all depends on the connectors of the fibre cables you are using.

For instance, for my company. The fibre comes into the building and a cable with two FC connectors attach to it, then on the other end of that cable there is two LC connectors that plug straight into the GBIC module that is inserted into the switch.

The GBIC module we use is the ProCurve Gigabit-SX-LC Mini-GBIC (J4858B) this module accepts LC connectors.
