Question : Problem: Backup exec 10 - Unable to initialize Remote Agent error when backing up a workgroup pc from a domain server?
I recently added a job to an overnight backup. The job is to backup 3 folders from a workgroup based pc from backup exec 10 installed on a server joined to a domain. The domain server install of backup exec seems fine and backs up all jobs. If I hit the restore button after the job I can see that the job run and an index is present for a restore. In the job history it displays the message below, before each job to the workgroup machine runs: The Media Server was unable to connect to Remote Machine DEVELOPMENT. The Media Server will fall back on the local agent to try and complete the operation. WARNING: Media servers cannot completely protect remote Windows-based servers or workstations unless the Backup Exec Remote Agent is installed and running on each remote Windows-based server or workstation to be protected. Data loss can occur if the Remote Agent is not running while backing up remote Windows-based computers.
Please refer to the documentation or online help for more information. Unable to initialize Remote Agent
How do I install the remote agent to this machine if it is needed?
