Question : Problem: TV (Component) to LAPTOP (HDMI)

I would like to connect my television to my laptop to watch movies from the laptop.
On my television the following inputs are available; component, composite, s-video and scart.
On the laptop the following outputs are available; HDMI and VGA. (Nvidia Quadro FX 1600M)

I am using the VGA output for my monitor, so the HDMI output has my preference.
On the television the component input has my preference as I think it can provide the best quality.

The problem here I think is that HDMI carries a digital signal and component an analog.

However when I started looking on the internet for a HDMI -> component cable I noticed they exist for connecting a gaming console to a television. (XBOX360, PS3 and Wii).

So will the HDMI output on the consoles output an analog signal?
And will this also be true for my laptop video card?

The televisions resolution is 1366x768, will I be able to (approximately) output in this resolution using PowerStrip?

Answer : Problem: TV (Component) to LAPTOP (HDMI)

You're correct that HDMI is a digital signal; and it does NOT have any analog signals that you can easily use for a component video connection.

The gaming-oriented HDMI => component adapters MAY work fine with your system ... but they will NOT pass any HDCP-protected content ... so you won't, for example, be able to play BluRay movies (if your laptop has a BluRay drive).   Here's one that's fully HDCP-enabled:  http://www.curtpalme.com/HDFury2.shtm
