On a 2 button mouse, I want both buttons assigned as a left click.  Is this possible?

Yes, it is.  I'm not sure whether it is doable just through the windows peripheral interface, but there are a number of key remapping programs out there that allow you to do so.  http://www.autohotkey.com/docs/misc/Remap.htm is one, but you can google for a number of free ones that are used around the net.  Just make sure they aren't key loggers at the same time.
