Question : Problem: Precision 670 thermal event on nonexistant secondary processor
|
|
Hello Experts,
I've been having this problem for about a week now. Whenever I boot up my Precision 670, it tells me: Alert! Previous fan failure Alert! Previous thermal failure Alert! Previous voltage failure Strike F1 to continue, or F2 to enter setup utility
if i hit F1, everything goes fine, windows boots up - no problems. If i leave it there, it will shut itself down after a few minutes and the next time it comes up, it adds one to the top of the list: Alert! Previous shutdown due to thermal event
So, I go into the BIOS and view the event log, where it tells me U 02/16/2007 08:38:07 CPU1 FAN U 02/16/2007 08:38:07 SMBIOS Handle = 1A02 U 02/16/2007 08:38:07 CPU1 Temperature
So you'd think it was the processor thats overheating right? Well, the thing of it is, this is a motherboard that supports dual processors, CPU0 is the main processor, CPU1 is the secondary. And heres the kicker, there is no second processor.
I've called dell a few times and i've replaced the fan, the heatsink, the processor, the power supply and the motherboard twice.
Does anyone have any suggestions on what this might be?

With that many parts being replaced and your still having the same issue i would have dell replace the system.
