Question : Problem: VGA and SOUND CARD DRIVER

After I install new OS (lets say win98) to my pc, I found that the color is only 256 color and there is no sound. How do i check the sound and VGA chip so that I can download the correct driver for my VGA and sound card ??

Best to do this BEFORE you wipe out the old OS.

Basically, 2 ways to identify the various cards:

1.  Physically open the computer, take the cards out and look for identifying information.  Most branded cards will have this information on them.

or

2.  Download a utility that examines your computer and attempts to identify it's components.  The best known is Everest (formerly Aida), another one Belarc Advisor.  This usually works, but not always.

Once you know what you have, go to the mfgrs site and download the drivers for those components.
