Question : Problem: Will a Compaq Deskpro EN PIII 996MHz be able to play back movies from a DVD ROM?
Hi Everyone;
I have an older PIII Compaq Deskpro EN PIII 996MHz with 512MB of RAM and running Windows XP Pro SP2. Using this technical information as a gauge, should I be able to play back movies on a DVD from a DVD ROM? The reason I ask is because I am considering installing a DVD ROM into this desktop, but, I want to make sure it can handle DVD playback.

A 1GHz P-III should be fast enough for standard DVDs. May have to "play" with various codecs, but I'm sure it will work.
... be careful when shopping for DVD drives => most are SATA these days; but you need an IDE drive.
