|
|
I have a remote office on cable & I need to get him connected to my WIN2k3 server running WIN exchange server. We have cable in home office. What VPN box should i be looking at in order to securely connect my remote office and allow up to 2 additional users while they are on the road access to the exchange server? Need is first & foremost speed and then security. What box will allow me the bext bank for the buck? Needs to be under $1000.00, including setup & testing
Thanks

You won't get any 2 people to agree on this but I will give you my 2 cents worth. -Nothing beats a Cisco unit for security, dependability, performance, flexibility, and support, however I don't know if you can do it for $1000. I am not familiar with their units, but others have stated they have some less expensive units now. Perhaps they will have some specific Cisco recommendations http://www.cisco.com/en/US/products/hw/vpndevc/index.html
-Middle of the road there is WatchGuard, SonicWall, CheckPoint, Netscreen and a few others. My favorite is WatchGuard. I like their SOHO6tc units for a configuration like yours. I have 7 WatchGuards and they have never failed once. Easy to configure, and many add on licensing options should you need them. Should run about $700 US plus installation costs, for a base unit with licenses for 5 remote/mobile VPN users. http://www.watchguard.com/products/soho.asp
-Low end but very dependable is the Linksys RV042. Again I have about 10 of these and they seem to work great. They are very affordable, partly due to 5 free mobile user licenses included, and no additional licenses required to set up, up to 30 branch to branch hardware VPN's. It is by far the easiest to configure and should run about $200 US plus set up costs. http://www.linksys.com/servlet/Satellite?childpagename=US%2FLayout&packedargs=c%3DL_Product_C2%26cid%3D1123638171618&pagename=Linksys%2FCommon%2FVisitorWrapper
