Question : Problem: Cold Temperature large cheap hard drivers

Ok I have a computer I built in my car with a itx board anyway blah blah it does not like temperatures under 40°F because of the hard drive anywho people said new drives have a liquid in them that makes them not work at this temperature. And then the ball bearing ones do not and should work. What Ia m wondering is if anyone has experience in this area and has a good solution I really don't want to spend over $150 and want at least 80gb of storage. Thanks for any recomendations.

Answer : Problem: Cold Temperature large cheap hard drivers

does the hard drive spin up when it is cold?

if it spins up, but wont read - your idea of booting from flash would be a winner

if it doesnt spin up, it will never heat up that way

the other thing i am thinking is a delayed startup process, start the car long before the computer - somehow get a small burst of heat from the engine (or wherever) to the bay of the hdd - you could probably re-route a heater duct.

but that is not very pretty, flash would be better - if it worked
