Question : Problem: eSata card: PCI-X vs. PCI, Dell PowerEdge 1600SC
|

I need a faster backup solution. Currently we're backing up via USB 2.0 and it's just taking too long now that we have over 100GB of data to back up on a regular basis. I figure eSATA is the way to go, but I'm limited by the hardware available in our current server.
We have a Dell PowerEdge 1600SC, which has PCI slots and PCI-X slots (from what I read of the specs...haven't opened it up yet).
So basically I've found that a PCI eSATA card is only to give me around twice the speed of USB 2.0 (am I wrong about that? is it not that much?). How much additional would PCI-X give me or is it not worth it? I know there are different frequencies, but I'm unsure what I have or how to find out.
I have an eSATA PCI card, but want to know if PCI-X is the way to go.
