Question : Problem: how to go about wiring a water pump- looking for solutions- please help
|

My rig is watercooled so i have a water pump with a normal ac power plug. what i am looking for is a solution to powering the water pump. i thought about wiring directly into the power supply but that would void my warranty- not really what i want to do but will if it is a last option. i have also thought about trying to find a plug that would allow me to wire my water pump into it mount it on the back of case and then just use the type of plug that powers a computer now. The one good thing about wiring into the power supply is that i would know the water pump is on when the computer is on. just looking for any ideas that you may have.

Ok I did find the answer for your problem and it's probably better than the two other answers. It's called a PCI relay card. You can connect the AC power to this card and lets you turn off the watercooling at the same time the computer powers off. You might have to cut the pumps power cord and connect it to the PCI relay, but it's easy enough to do if you installed a power switch. I'm guessing your pretty crafty with PC's since your doing W/C. Anyway, I'll point you to the link here:

I haven't ordered from their site, but www.reseller'sratings.com have them on the top 10 list of online retailers. I think the best point of all about the relay switch is that you don't need to fish the pumps power cord out and it can be shutdown same time as the pc. I'm not sure if the autosensing switch does that, but I'll let you make the choice. I don't know if you want to use the autosensing switch especially if your going to haul your W/C PC to LAN parties.
