Question : Problem: Error when loading windows xp on a newly partitioned HD.
I have a new Dell Optiplex 300 which I formatted the HD on using Fdisk and partitioned it using XOSL boot loader. When I try to load windows XP on the first partition (actually, tried it on all three), I get an error message at the point it's getting ready to install windows (after checking the system configurations) that a problem has been detected and windows has been shut down. I have partitioned hard drives in this same way on several other computers and have never had this problem. This is the first time I've tried it with the Optiplex. Someone told me it might be something in the BIOS that Dell put in that needs to be changed, but didn't know that for sure or what to change.
Help is greatly needed and will be appreciated just as much!
Thanks!
Answer : Problem: Error when loading windows xp on a newly partitioned HD.
Go in to the BIOS
Go to the setting SATA Operation and change it to ATA, rather than the default AHCI.
Try your installation again.
